Secrets of Getting the Most from Your Engagement Session
What’s an engagement session and why is this such a great opportunity (apart from a fantastic way to meet your new favorite Boston Wedding Photographer)? Here are three things you need to know about your engagement session with Ryan Richardson Photography.
What’s Engagement Photography All About?:
An engagement session is a portrait session for couples headed to the altar that wants to capture a little piece of your love story during this unique time in your lives. It’s also a little bit of an ice breaker with your future wedding photographer (so you’re more comfortable and confident with them on your wedding day) and a lot modeling boot camp that will help you get the most out of your wedding photographer on your wedding day. After your session, your engagement photos will be a fond memory of this step on your journey. They’re also a great way to get your friends and family even more hyped for your wedding day through sharing on social media or Save the Date cards.
What’s the Engagement Session Like?:
A typical engagement session with Ryan Richardson Photography is a little over an hour of exploring and experimenting as go through a crash course in how to be supermodels (or at least have fun trying). Sessions are as varied as the couples they feature - some are playful, others are romantic, and other couples are all about the epic shots. What your session looks like is something you can find out when you consult with your photographer (which starts on our inquiries page).
If you’re stumped for ideas, we have some suggestions:
Urban Elegance - Dress up like you’re ready for a night out and take in the lights and glamour that we can squeeze out from your city. What’s great about this sort of session is that once it’s over, you can just keep the night going with your own night out, painting the town red.
Get Active - Posing can be very nerve-wracking for people that haven’t had a lot of experience in front of the camera, so why not center your engagement session around a shared activity? Hit up the carnival, take an art class or maybe (if you’re feeling a little more like staying in) cook a meal together. Making your engagement session focus on an activity is a great way to take your mind off the camera for a while - and it can also be a fun way to show off your personality or a shared hobby.
Recreate Your First Date - Maybe you want to take this moment to reflect on where your relationship started and those early days? Think about where you first fell in love, or where you shared that first kiss. There are so many little, meaningful milestones in a relationship and an engagement session can pay tribute to some of those.
Get Silly - Being a model can make you feel silly, so why not lean into it? Pick a fun theme or idea and just run wild! Maybe you both loved Game of Thrones (at least before the last season) and want to have a shoot in costumes? What if you want to play paintball in formal-wear (probably not a rented tux though)? Romance and your engagement session don’t have to be serious or sentimental, you can also have a lot of fun and let your imagination run wild.
