Spring Into Your Massachusetts Engagement Session: Doing Something Different
Engagement photography can be absolutely stunning, especially when you book with your favorite Boston wedding photographer (Ryan Richardson Photography), but sometimes they can blend into one another with a few tried and tested poses and some locations that prove very popular (just stroll around the Boston Public Garden on a Saturday in late April, early May, there are a dozen shoots going on at any time). So what should you do if you want something that’s going to stand out from the crowd or that’s more uniquely you?
Luckily, Ryan Richardson Photography has your back with some outside of the box New England engagement photography session ideas (speaking of which, have you scheduled your session yet?)…
4. Get Fancy:
Engagement photography attire can often fall into the realm of “business casual” so why not go extra? Dress up like you’re ready for a night out and take in the lights and glamour that we can squeeze out from your city. Or maybe contrast glamorous attire with something a bit more grungy or incongruous. What’s great about this sort of session is that once it’s over, you can just keep the night going with your own night out, painting the town red (don’t worry, I know when I’m not wanted). You can also go over the top with your location and props: killer photos on a rooftop with a city skyline in the back? Hot air balloon festival? Luxe pool party? Night at the opera house? Destination engagement photography (look for a post on that later)? The only limit is your imagination (also your budget
3. Get Active:
Posing can be very nerve-wracking for people that haven’t had a lot of experience in front of the camera, so why not center your Boston engagement photography session around a shared activity? Hit up the carnival, take an art class or maybe (if you’re feeling a little more like staying in) cook a meal together. Maybe take in an Escape Room or a one-on-one game of laser tag? Making your engagement session focus on an activity is a great way to take your mind off the camera for a while - and it can also be a fun way to show off your personality or a shared hobby.
2. Recreate Your First Date:
Maybe you want to take this moment to reflect on where your relationship started and those early days, that little restaurant in the North End or the place in the Seaport where you had your meet-cute? Think about where you first fell in love, or where you shared that first kiss. There are so many little, meaningful milestones in a relationship and an engagement session can pay tribute to some of those that will help add a unique flair to your Boston engagement photography session.
1. Get Into Character/Get Silly:
Being a model can make you feel silly, so why not lean into it? Pick a fun theme or idea and just run wild! Maybe you both loved Game of Thrones (at least before the last season) and want to have a shoot in costumes? What if you want to tell the story of two secret agents in a race against time? If every picture is worth a thousand words, then you could certainly tell a whole story through your Boston engagement photography session. If you’re less interested in telling a story and more interested in having fun, why not mash up some of the other ideas? What if you want to play paintball in formal-wear (probably not a rented tux though)?
Romance and your engagement session don’t have to be serious or sentimental, you can also have a lot of fun and let your imagination run wild. Hopefully some of these ideas will have you inspired (or have convinced you that those old sentimental basics are right for you), so why don’t you book with Ryan Richardson Photography and schedule your Boston engagement session soon?
