Fall is the most popular time in New England for scheduling your engagement photography session. You can slip into some flannel, grab a hot cup of coffee, and crunch through some leaves and it can be breathtaking. What’s the best way to capture that autumnal magic?

Head North - Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire often start to show their colors earlier than Massachusetts and Rhode Island especially as you head north. Higher peaks and valleys can also provide more stunning vistas of color in the fall.

Get the Timing Right - The beautiful golden light of sunrise and sunset can really make the colors of the leaves pop in your photographs. Definitely avoid that midday direct sunlight. Weather can also have a big impact on color - gray days can emphasize earth tones. Shooting shortly after the rain can deepen color on leaves (especially the ones on the ground).

The Scenic Route - Getting great fall images is often about turning nature into a subject as much as the couple. So consider outfits that will be good for getting out and adventurous whether you’re going to just relax beneath the boughs of a tree or if you’re going to play in the leaves.
