How to Pick a Boudoir Outfit | Boston Boudoir Photography
Picking the right outfit for your boudoir session can be both exciting and overwhelming. It's important to choose pieces that make you feel confident and beautiful, even if they are a little uncomfortable or impractical. Here are some tips to help you pick the perfect outfit for your boudoir session.
Consider the Style of Your Session
The first thing you should consider is the style of your boudoir session. Will it be a soft and romantic session or a more edgy and daring one? The style of your session will help guide your wardrobe choices. For a soft and romantic session, consider wearing delicate lace or silk pieces. For a more edgy session, consider a leather jacket or corset. If it’s your first boudoir session, I usually recommend clients start with something htat’s a bit more comfortable and cozy so they can have a little more control over their exposure and get adjusted to being in front of the lens.
Choose Pieces that Make You Feel Confident
The most important thing when picking an outfit for your boudoir session is to choose pieces that make you feel confident and beautiful. If you're not comfortable in what you're wearing, it will show in your photos. Choose pieces that flatter your body and make you feel sexy. Of course comfort can mean something different in a boudoir session - for example you might feel super confident and six feet tall in a pair of sky high heels, and they’re great for striking a power pose or lounging lasciviously but not for a night out dancing.
Think About Color
The color of your outfit can also make a big impact in your photos. If you have a favorite color or something that makes you feel confident, consider incorporating that into your outfit. Bold colors can add a pop of personality to your photos, while neutral tones can create a classic and timeless look. When in doubt, who doesn’t look and feel amazing in a little black dress?
Bring a Variety of Outfits
It's always a good idea to bring a variety of outfits to your Boston boudoir session. This will give you more options to choose from and allow you to create different looks throughout your session. Consider bringing a mix of lingerie, bodysuits, robes, and other pieces. Prior to your session we’ll schedule a consultation about looks and mood boards, but sometimes something doesn’t work quite right on camera and it’s good to have alternatives.
Consider Accessories
Accessories can add a lot to your boudoir session. Consider bringing items such as jewelry, high heels, and stockings to add a touch of glamor to your photos. Hats, scarves, and other accessories can also create a unique and personalized look. Props and accessories can also help to tell a story through your photos or give you something to focus on or toy with, taking your attention away from posing and letting you act a little more naturally.
Consider Your Setting
The setting of your boudoir session can also influence your wardrobe choices. If you're shooting in a bedroom or hotel room, consider bringing pieces that complement the decor. If you're shooting in a studio or outdoor location, consider pieces that will stand out against the background and make a bold statement.
Don't Forget About Comfort
While it's important to choose pieces that make you feel confident and beautiful, it's also important to consider comfort. Make sure you choose pieces that fit well and don't pinch or ride up. You want to be able to move around and pose comfortably during your session. Pieces that are too tight will often leave marks on the skin that will show up as you move or change outfits, pieces that are too loose tend to create less flattering images. Keep this in mind for the day before your session as well, favor loose-fitting items that don’t tug or leave marks on your skin before your shoot.
Picking the right outfit for your Boston boudoir session doesn’t have to be hard, it can be a fun and exciting process. By considering the style of your session, choosing pieces that make you feel confident, thinking about color and accessories, bringing a variety of outfits, considering your setting, and not forgetting about comfort, you can create a beautiful and personalized look for your boudoir session. Remember, the most important thing is to choose pieces that make you feel confident and beautiful.
