Now that a wonderfully busy June is behind me I've fielded quite a few calls and e-mails from couples looking to pick up a photographer at the last minute. Occasionally this request comes with a follow up question, "how flexible are you on pricing?"
The real answer is that I'm not flexible at all, save in a few special cases. Typically I start out this conversation by talking about the packages I offer, able to shrink or fit to just about any wedding and many budgets. But fitting a package to a budget can call for a for compromise, and that's not something a lot of people want to think about for one of the most important days of their lives.
As personal and friendly as this business is, it's still a business. Still, special cases do apply.
First, I try to lead couples toward booking an engagement session before they book a whole wedding. It's a great chance to build a rapport, get some great images and get a preview of your special day without having to spend thousands of dollars. To add some incentive I offer engagement session customers 10 percent any package they book.
A similar discount is available to members of the United States Armed Forces (active or retired), as well as Massachusetts teachers.
