Boston Boudoir Fashion Month - What’s Your Comfort Level | Boston Wedding Photographer

Boston Boudoir Photography isn’t about one particular look, it’s about creating an experience where you can show off your confidence and charm in a way that makes you feel sexy and empowered. Whether that’s in a killer little black dress or something more revealing, comfort and confidence can go hand in hand.

When I talk to people about boudoir, they often have a particular image in their head about what that entails. Often clients are concerned about what they’re going to be showing off, expecting that their Boston boudoir photography session means that they would have to bare it all, but boudoir includes a range of styles and different levels of exposure from covered up to completely bare. To help kickstart Boudoir Fashion month, let’s start with a conversation about the different levels of exposure for your boudoir session: modest, classic, and a little more daring.

Modest is hardly the first thing people think when it comes to boudoir, but you don’t have to be half-dressed to be stunning. Often boudoir can be as much about showing off confidence and comfort as it is about showing off curves. What outfits make you feel glamorous? What from your wardrobe makes you feel sexy? Maybe you want to show a little bit of leg in a cocktail dress. Or perhaps you want to do a cheeky pose in an oversized man’s shirt? Modest outfits are also a great way to get warmed up for a shoot, and we’ll talk a little bit more about them in our post on cozy and comfortable possibilities.

The classic approach is creating the right balance between concealing and revealing. You want to get an outfit that leaves a little (but not too little) to the imagination while drawing attention to the parts of your body that make you feel confident. Corsets and lingerie are very popular for this level of shoot, letting you indulge in a more decadent and fantasy version of yourself.

Daring is for Boston Boudoir clients that are looking for something beyond what they might have seen their friends shoot, they want to stand out and get a little more exposed and vulnerable. This could either come with implied or fully-nude portraiture, or perhaps outdoor sessions. Popular implied sessions involve strategically draped blankets, or being immersed in a bath covered in flower petals that hint at what might lie beneath.

What’s the level of exposure you’re looking for at your Boston Boudoir session?
