This is part of a short series of posts inspired by Top Ten Questions to Ask Your Boston Wedding Photographer answering some of the most important questions couples should ask their wedding photographer. Your photographer is going to be right there by your side for most of your wedding day, from getting your makeup on to when you’re burning down the dance floor, so it helps if they have a presence that doesn’t hit you like nails on a chalkboard.

My general approach to weddings is to remember that it’s about celebrating your love and community, not an elaborate excuse to have a photo shoot (that’s why we have bridal or boudoir sessions). I want couples to be able to enjoy the wedding they’ve planned and not feel like they have to constantly perform for a camera (though there’s certainly a time and place for that). As much as I like to think that I’m bright and clever and fun to be around, my goal is to make sure that you and the people important to you are comfortable and relaxed. Sometimes that means being a big, goofy dork and other times it means knowing when to shut up and let moments unfold.
